Wachiay Friendship Centre

To meet the needs of people of native origin who are making the transition to the urban community. This is done by providing services and information designed to enhance traditional values and the cultures of Native people; In the spirit of first nations philosophy, to create bridges, friendship, and to provide a safe and supportive environment for the empowerment of all people.

Wachiay is Cree for Welcome. Everyone is welcome at the Wachiay Friendship Centre. The Wachiay Friendship Centre has grown significantly since its incorporation in August 1995. There have been many challenges, including the financial difficulty of being a non-core funded centre. The centre has grown from two staff to 16 staff, delivering vital programs and services to community members in the Comox Valley . The needs of community members have increased with funding cuts to programs and services and we are in a position of having to do more with less.
